“ Data Citizens 216 ” is a project that seeks to educate and empower people about managing their data traces, understanding how they are being followed online, and learning more about the data industry.
Background. The basic concept for Data Citizens 216 was conceived following the Digital Safety Forum in June 2022 by the Digital Citizenship organization, which operates for digital literacy, journalism, women and girls leadership, empowerment, and civic engagement in Tunisia, the Middle East, and Africa. The organization aims to bring safe digital solutions to our daily life. An upshot of the forum was launching a project related to online safety. Inspired by the "Terms of Service; Didn't Read" and the "Me & My Shadow" projects. We founded Data Citizens 216 because we felt it was vital to have such an initiative for Tunisia and the MENA region.
What does our slogan “They have got it all on you. Who are they? Where are they?” mean? We all consent to the terms of service of various social media platforms without reading them, and as a result, without our awareness, our data is saved, our identities are utilized, and our personal information is shared. Our slogan is to draw attention to the fact that those social media platforms got it all on us and thus to inform and educate people about who they are and how our data is used.
